San Diego, CA – On November 18, 2025, Larry Cohen was sworn in as San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector. He immediately announced his candidacy for a full elective term which will be before the voters on November 3, 2026.

This week, Cohen announced a star-studded list of endorsements, headed by Congressman Juan Vargas (D-San Diego), the Dean of the local Congressional delegation.

“Larry Cohen is uniquely qualified to serve as San Diego County’s top fiscal official and chief investment strategist,” said Congressman Vargas.

“He was my Senior Policy Advisor on the US House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services, including the subcommittees for Capital Markets, Financial Institutions & Monetary Policy, and National Security, Illicit Finance and International Financial Institutions.  He helped craft legislative solutions to some of the most critical challenges facing the US economy and has a deep knowledge of investment and financial markets and how best to navigate them for the public good.”

“In addition, Larry served as my Chief of Staff for five years where he did an extraordinary job in helping my office navigate a difficult environment and successfully serve my constituents.” Vargas continued. “Larry also has experience in the private sector as an investor and senior manager for Fortune 100 companies. San Diego is very fortunate to have someone with Larry’s knowledge and depth of experience serving as the County’s Treasurer-Tax Collector.”

In addition, Cohen released a list of endorsements that includes: Congressman Scotte Peters, Congressman Mike Levin, State Senate Pro Tem (retired) Toni Atkins, Chair of the Board of Supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer, Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, Supervisor Monica Montgomery,

State Senator Steve Padilla and Assembly Member Tasha Boehner.

“I am deeply honored to have earned the support and trust of so many top leaders and officials in the county. As the official responsible for safeguarding the collection and disbursement of the more than $8 billion annually, I pledge that my office will maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency and accountability.

“I was proud to be deemed the most qualified when the Board of Supervisors appointed me this past November and I hope my diligence and hard work will earn the support of the electorate in November.”

Cohen’s campaign to win the 2026 election in his own right is off to a rapid start.
